When hiring a web design company, it’s easy to feel completely overwhelmed by the sheer number of options out there.

Do you want to go with a huge corporation or a small business? Do you want this design or that? Do you want a rush job or do you want to take a while to perfect the design?

Before you decide on any web design company for your website, however, it’s important that you fully vet the company themselves to find out more about who they are. Today we’re talking about 8 questions that you can ask to really get to know the web design company you are considering hiring.

8 Questions to Ask Your Potential Web Design Company Before Hiring Them

1. What Other Services Can You Provide?

If your website is going to be an eCommerce store, will need a user submission area, will be a member’s only site, or will incorporate interactive user experiences, it’s important that the web design company you hire is able to provide those services.

You could hire a second professional to go in after your design is complete to take care of these things, but it’s always easier and much faster to get everything done at the same time by the same company.

2. Do You Use Templated Designs or Do You Create My Site From Scratch?

Some web design companies use templated designs that can be customized to your needs and other companies create website designs from scratch.

There are benefits and drawbacks to each of these options, so take some time to analyze which is best for you and find a designer who offers the type of service you are looking for. Just be sure that if they use a templated design, that they have the rights to use that templated design for their client’s websites and not only for their own personal use.

3. Do You Have Experience Designing Websites in My Niche?

It can be very helpful to hire a web design company who has experience designing sites within your niche or specialty because it means that they have experience that is applicable to your needs.

For example, certain industries have specific web design needs such as online booking calendars, if your potential web designer has experience with this type of design, they are more likely to be able to help you with your project. We always recommend asking to see the websites that they are referencing when a company tells you that they have experience with your niche so that you can get a better idea of their skillset.

4. Do You Offer Revisions?

With any web design or logo design project, it’s important that you are satisfied with the final product since you are paying for the work. This is why it’s always best to ask ahead of time whether a web design company offers revisions in the web design package you are interested in.

If revisions are offered, how many revisions and what are the limitations (if any) on these revisions?

If revisions are not offered, can they be added for an extra charge? If so, what are the limitations (if any) on those revisions?

5. Will You Provide Me With the Design Source Files?

This isn’t always necessary, but it’s always useful to have the design source files for your website design if possible. These files will make it much easier to make tweaks to your design in the future and they will come in handy when you are designing social media headers, banners, and sending out newsletters!

If a web design company does offer design source files with your website design, ask what format these files will be in and be sure that you or someone else in your circle has a program designed to open and edit those files.

6. How Long Do You Estimate My Project Will Take?

This can be a tricky question because sometimes unexpected obstacles arise when any project is underway. However, your web design company should be able to give you a general idea of how long your web design project should take barring any revisions or special additional requests made throughout the design process.

7. How Many Page Templates Are Included in My Web Design?

Depending on your website niche, you will need different types of templates for different types of pages.

For example, a page that is used as a photo gallery will need a different template design to a page that is used to display blog posts or articles. You can request as many page templates for your website design as you like, but make sure that you find out from your designer how many templates are included in the cost of your site design and how much it will cost to add additional templates.

8. Can You Create a Logo For My Site Too?

If you do not already have a logo for your business or your website, it’s worth asking a web design company if they can design one for you. Not all web design companies offer logo design services, but if your web design company does, you may be able to save some money on your logo design by combining it with a website design package.
